Page 6 Farming
For past millennia most of the world’s population have been employed in farming. People lived in the countryside and produced crops and food. Small towns were interspersed into this rural scene to facilitate commercial interactions and, in general, country-folk would visit towns once a week, or so, to sell their produce and purchase items for the family or farm.
It is only in the last few hundred years that industrialization has given people the choice of working in areas other than farming. In the past decades we have seen an alarming shift, globally, to city life – from a ratio of 9:1 rural to urban living we now have a ratio 1:9 so that farming occupies a very small proportion of the working population.
